SANTA CLARA, Calif. – August 13, 2019 – Aruba, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company, today announced that Cal State University (CSU) Fullerton has standardized on Aruba’s wireless solutions and has deployed Aruba’s unique User Experience Insight solution to address the surge in volume and variety of mobile devices on campus, and to give students and faculty improved digital experiences.

With more than 40,000 combined undergraduate and graduate students and faculty, CSU Fullerton is seeing as many as 22,000 concurrent devices connecting to its network daily – and growing. Due to this increase in devices across both the main Fullerton campus and Irvine Center, CSU Fullerton’s IT team needed to bolster the wireless coverage, indoors and outdoors, to assure high performance and reliability.

CSU Fullerton turned to Aruba, upgrading its existing wireless network with both indoor and outdoor access points (APs) across campus, including installations in the campus’ student housing, 7200 Series Mobility Controllers, Aruba ClearPass for policy management, and AirWave network management to assist in monitoring and reporting. The University also deployed Aruba’s User Experience Insight solution to provide mobile user application assurance and rapid troubleshooting. The User Experience Insight sensors continuously monitor and test Wi-Fi and applications performance, and the simple, cloud-based dashboard displays actionable insights that are easy to understand.

CSU Fullerton is upgrading the APs across its facilities to ensure high performance connectivity for applications students and faculty are using whether educational, such as Moodle, or recreational, like Netflix.  In addition, they’ve upgraded the APs in the University’s sports complex to enable wireless ticket scanning for events.

Approximately 100 User Experience Insight sensors have been deployed throughout the campus so that the IT team can closely monitor both how users are accessing the wireless network and the experience users are having with the network.

For the future, CSU Fullerton plans to expand its User Experience Insight deployment, placing at least one sensor on each classroom floor, as well as deploying sensors at other CSU campuses for cross-campus referencing. The User Experience Insight sensors will help monitor critical applications, identify any issues and monitor the responsiveness of CSU’s web servers.
